XiC: Expansion, History and Ximperialism
Mutation – Xi have an in-depth understanding of the Xi ‘Gravitron Beam’, also known as a ‘Beaming Array System’ as its commonly referred to, in contrast to Xi’s older method of space travel. This technology, first invented by Xi in its earliest voyages across the solar system and refined for mass manufacture later by Xi technology. Xi are able to harness gravity to create and control it as a weapon. Xi’s ‘Graviton beams’ are an extremely powerful source of gravity manipulation, able to alter the gravity around vessels in whatever direction they choose, removing friction, resistance and drag while recycling energy spent while in usage. Xi have been able to use this technology to launch a massive amount of gravity manipulation, allowing many Xi ships to fly or levitate themselves to great distances in small fractions of the time as they formerly did from star ports, and they’ve been able to ‘levitate’ large spaceship fleets whole by attaching levitation arrays onto them. Xi could use the gravity manipulation to manipulate entire planets and move them into desired locations. Initially Graviton Beam Arrays were localized to planets with heavy energy requirements and maintenance. Developments by Dysonite Inc allowed mobile GBA ports to be built in deep space at localized points inbetween systems, fully powered and recharged by Dysonite drones that combined cold fusion with quantum solar panel fields to maximize energy output. This ‘catapult method’ of travel was initially seen as risky and carried the burden of its best calculations, as radiation, asteroids and space debris could present increasingly volatile damage to far-flung ships. The progress of GB emitter shielding has made defense against these hazards a low-maintenance matter. Upon perfecting this technology, it became permissible to fling entire armadas into rival populations and races lightyears away, sweep through their defenses by way or orbital bombardment and be back in time for lunch, so the saying.
This technological leap ushered an unpresented golden age of space exploration, colonization and material growth for the Ximperium in the 2nd Xentury. Due to the initial hysteric fever rush of corporate reach and barbarism that occurred during this intense period of progress, the Xi Upper Realms Council began relaying a series of public treatises to ethically manage the acquisition of new planets and races upon entering new occupation into Xi’s involuntary workforce, such as establishing humane work hours in industrial re-programming centers and standards of safety for factory labor. The market for new labor and the procurement of new world goods, from new lavish textiles and foods to organs and exotic pets became popular during this era.
The presence and fostering of this new workforce produced a surge of demand for psychics, linguistics, cultural anthropologists and new trainers to understand and recondition the growing labor units in record numbers. Re-programming centers grew exponentially, eventually becoming the primary method to convert the new nationals and xitizens into both worker units and designated loyal military members. Realms. Although outer-species inductees of Xi were initially forced into servitude under contracts of work that came with protection clauses, many Xi in the Xi Lower Realms were eager to trade their labor for higher pay and free time to pursue various hobbies and activities, and such clauses were found to be superfluous and unnecessary. Newly empowered administers that previously served Xi’s enemies became a common sight in the Xi Upper Realms, many of them becoming re-programmers themselves of their own populations to control their emotions and directives towards Xi’s ever-growing popularity and imperial ambitions.
Some newly assimilated Xitizens of high class, however, refuse to become re-programmers, choosing instead to travel and study in Xi underground and squalid cultures, taking up the Xi’s shadow trades of traveling merchants among the Merchant Guild. The term ‘Noble thiefdom’ has come to designate those of aristocratic and ruling classes of worlds that took to the life of rogues within the Merchant Society once their homeworlds were stripped from them, a topic of genre fiction that tugged at heartstrings of many cinema followers. Although Xi’ans may have the ability to capitalize with countless races, these variations have caused many Xi to become somewhat ethnocentric, viewing other races as a sub-species or inferior. Xi merchants may interact with these races in a business-like manner and become integrated into their communities, giving the Merchant Guild and A.I.M. a reputation for their multicultural, if chauvinistic sensitivities.
Xi’s natural position as a trading empire has historically helped it make a living from the rich wealth over the Xenturies. Xi’s greatest triumph was the development of its highly successful technology and development of the intergalactic trade.
Re-programming centers and factories became the hot new career field in Xi following the commodification of numerous assimilated cultures, languages and societies, providing much-needed income and employment for an entire generation. Many have been re-coded with a high level of aptitude for math and sciences, often being conditioned into the empirical fields of star travel and safety route management. Xi scientists and educators were granted significant tax breaks to aid in the growing field of math and science education in Xi. Many school buildings were upgraded to provide more spacious work and living space to the swelling indoctrinated work force and a few were adapted to be educational centers for the children of factory workers, many of whom will be educated into becoming factory workers and managers themselves.
In
turn, this education of the masses lead to a mass rise in the numbers of
students in Xi, many becoming factory apprentices over the Xenturies, the
latter becoming highly sought-after employees and prized laborers to the Xi
civilization and a means of assimilation.
The Leadership of Xi is fielded by the Six Elderdragons. Two Elderdragons are
placed in the field of each of the 3 branches of Xi’s government, two for its
Military, two for its economy and two for Upper Realms council. The Six enjoy
immeasurable wealth, luxury and power and delegate the highest decisions in Xi
as a council. The 6 rarely meet together in person, for security reasons,
instead only finding assembly via holo-projections. Each possess their own
private fleet, network of spies and personal trading contracts that allow them
to earn directly from the partners of their choosing. In times of crisis, Xi’s
Elderdragons meet for joint decisions and can come together for the sole
purpose of ruling Xi’s military during a time of war, a practice that has
historically brought swift and bloody victories for Xi. Selection of
Elderdragons is based on the will and individual methodology of every
Elderdragon house- some choose simple hereditary means, others by meritocracy,
on occasion Elderdragons have even sold out the position as a bidding contract
upon their retirement, the official rules for transition have always been left
to the 6 individuals and are subject to change from generation to generation.
There are no limitations on age, sex, gender, species, nationality, creed or
physical handicap. One infamous transition ceremony involved a series of
children’s games in which a series of victims would play for weeks, undergoing
death-eliminations every game until the last standing player was titled
Elderdragon. To be an Elderdragon is to be revered and worshipped in many
respects, the Xi’s Military revere the Elderdragons with the highest reverence
and respect. from those in positions of privilege to the very masses in an
ongoing culture of Xi’s self-glorification. The Elderdragons are the pinnacle
of Xi civilization, the pinnacle of their empire. With each generation, power
is consolidated even more, the Elderdragons, who oversee and direct Xi’s
massive military in a manner far beyond that of any previous generation, have a
greater power than all Xi civil governments combined. To become an Elderdragon
is to become a true demi-god of Xi civilization and an honor which they
themselves acknowledge with an imperial court.
Xi also has its share of ‘lesser’ races, all subservient to the Xi society and are often used for labor, entertainment and sex. Although none of these in Xi are inherently dangerous, Xi recognizes its need for protection against external threats and uses the lesser races for that purpose. Xi’s population is primarily human, even the non-human races are generally treated in the same manner as those of Xi’s humans, although many non-humans are often the subjects of research or study.
Xi’s primary agricultural practices are based on the use of nanotechnology that helps to keep the surface soil in proper state and conditions, allowing for the cultivation of crops to flourish in their natural manner. Xi is also a world leader in the research of synthetic biology, and has been granted a temporary suspension on the development of bio-mass generated artificial crops from synthesizer modules.
In recent times, genetic manipulation has become a common practice within Neo Xi’s population for free expression rather than conformity.
