3.5|Tell me your Feelings

Mercy and Protas sat in the woods, closing their eyes on a big stump. A tall stack of textbooks on a wagon sat behind them. "Breathe.. take in the flow of all things. See the light that comes from within, and connect it to the out spaces without." Protas's body began to generate tendrils of light which touched every tree and waved across the grass, gently sweeping back to her in cycles and growing more intense every time, like a brilliant beacon ready to claw the moon pale.

Mercy fell back, hitting her head. "Ow."

She got up, then stopped and looked at Protas. "This is stupid." She sighed.

"We've been out for here days, I haven't learned anything.."

Protas pat her daughter's head. "It's alright. You'll get the hang of it"

Mercy rolled her eyes and went back to looking at the view. It was nice to breathe in the wind and feel the warmth of it all. But she couldn't relax. She was too focused on the task at hand.

"How did it feel when you first unlocked this, Hex? What did you need to do to

learn it?" She rubbed her cheek, wiping some grass off.

"What did I feel? What did I do.." Protas thought. "Hmm.. good question." She thought about it. "I felt.. loved. Yes, when me and Raelyn were stuck completely together, I had to meditate on me and her, and what we meant between the two of us. From both our sides. I was told the power that supplies the Hex comes from outside this universe, but what actually makes it tick is.. well, maybe it's how you love someone? Or relate? Like me and your mom's connection is what brought the light out."

Mercy sat down again. She felt dizzy and off balance. "Right, let's do this." She closed her eyes and tried to connect herself to the woods. It felt a bit difficult. It was so different from what she usually did.

"I'm not sure what I'm doing." She sighed and felt herself getting tired.

She had used up almost all her mental energy.

Protas looked at her daughter. "You feel what you feel. I feel what I feel. That's

how it works. Focus on someone you love.."

Mercy twitched. "I see Sway.." She said. "She chewed and drooled on my

bedsheets last night, and I had to chase her up a tree last week."

"Okay, not sure if that's what I said but, what do you feel?"

"Like punching her." Mercy spat.

"Anything else?"

"Punching her harder."

"Hmmm.." Protas thought for a second. "Okay, maybe focus on that."

Mercy stared at the tree, breathing in and out to calm herself. She tried to look inside herself. She focused on the way Sway looked, on how she made her feel, and how she acted. Her blood rushed, her heart spiked. "Aggrrrrhhh.." She threw her fist ahead. "AAAAAAGRGAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" The eerie light from Protas and the woods wrapped around Mercy's fist like a balled aura and burst around her. The punch went out in a shockwave, toppling dozens of trees. The light from the woods faded into the ground, and Mercy's body collapsed on the earth.

"Ahhh.." She was breathing heavily. Protas smiled.

"I think, you found your focus.."

Her daughter rubbed her own hand, which bled a bit.

"You said anything in my heart will come through this Hex.."

She said. "So I focused on what I felt.."

Protas nodded. "Yeah, I feel you're not done yet. What are you thinking about now?" "I'm picturing Sway, when I'm with her, like a crazy person" The Flicker shrugged. "Wonder how Rae is doing right now..."

"Mhm.. pie smells lovely." Raelyn pulled the pan out of the hearth, a boy and a girl crawling behind her. She picked both up and cradled them carefully. Monarch came back, Sway dragging something behind him. Raelyn went out in front at the sound of a knock and peaked out the door. "Wuhh?"

Sway pulled her prey into the front yard. Carrying over her shoulders was a

large boarbear thrive the size of their house.

"What the hell is that?!" Raelyn yelled.

"S'meat!" She cheered. She took the carcass and casually threw it over his head and held it with ease, whistling out her mouth a stream of fire over its hide until the soft tissues turned to broiled leather steak.

"We went hunting." He high-fived her and gave the giant beast a thud with his

fists.
